From May 16th Cēsis History and Art museum opens the first two floors of the museum’s exhibiton, Medieval castle’s Western tower, multimedia exhibiton “Story of Cēsis castle”, medieval kitchen garden un Exhibition hall.
Working hours in May from Wednesday to Sunday 10:00 – 18:00, Mondays and Tuesdays – previous application (except groups).
In Medieval castle’s Western tower visitors can see multimedia exhibiton “Story of Cēsis castle”, which is a unique with its video, sound and light effects. It completely surrounds the viewer. Feel the atmosphere of old times and learn the fascinating story of the most powerful Livonian fortress in an unprecedented experience. In the tower one can also visit the master’s living room and enjoy the beautiful view of the city of Cēsis. For families with school-age children, we offer individual activity sheets to help you learn about the history of the Medieval castle.
In the kitchen garden of the Medieval castle, the caring gardener has been working hard since early spring. This summer you will have the opportunity to learn about 60 varieties of vegetables, herbs and medicinal plants grown in the Middle Ages. Those that were a part of the spring menu of the Medieval castle’s residents, can already be seen in the green exposition of the castle’s garden. We invite you to talks about ancient plants, gardening and health with our knowledgeable gardener.
The first two floors of the Cēsis History and Art museum exposition can be seen: the historical exposition about Cēsis New Castle and Castle Manor, the exposition “Cēsis – administrative, political and economic center in the 16th – 19th century” and interior rooms – Great Salon, Coffee Room and Count Sievers’s cabinet.
The exhibition of children’s works of art “Radi rotājot” can be seen in the Exhibition hall. The works have been created by children from 13 nearby educational institutions. Creating tradition-based, modern works in various visual and visually plastic art techniques, the participants have studied the topic of “decoration” in nature, everyday life, space, cultural heritage, including Latvian folklore.

Cēsis History and Art Museum, opening its doors to visitors, participates in the joint museum information campaign #TiekamiesTagad. As part of it, for the convenience of visitors, the museum will place bright yellow informational materials, created in accordance with the requirements of the state sanitary protocol and invites visitors to take care of a safe visit to the museum for themselves and others.
